Pulitzer

The problem

I was consuming a large volume of news and analysis without a reliable way to decide what deserved my attention. Summarizing everything would only create another inbox. The real problem was selection, scrutiny, and synthesis.

The approach

I built Pulitzer as an analytical editor rather than a generic news summarizer. It reviews a defined set of sources, ranks what is worth my time, and separates what was reported from its own analysis and the resulting conclusion.

How it worked

Pulitzer runs recurring editorial workflows for newsletters and articles I save. It filters out material it has already covered, produces a concise written brief, converts selected pieces into audio, and keeps enough state to continue the curriculum or queue without repeating itself.

Key decisions

• Optimize for editorial judgment rather than comprehensive coverage.
• Separate facts, analysis, and synthesis so commentary is never presented as reporting.
• Have the entire experience take place over audio, which is how I prefer to consume information.

Outcome

Pulitzer is in active use. It has produced recurring news triage, deeper explainers, and audio briefs that let me keep learning without treating every incoming article as equally important.

What I learned

A useful information agent needs a point of view and a stopping rule. Retrieval and summarization are not enough. The value comes from deciding what matters, showing why, and being explicit about the boundary between evidence and interpretation.
